About Bereka

Bereka is a first of it’s kind, Amharic game company which designs games to spark conversation, humor, and shared storytelling. The initial prototype was written in Amharic through partnership with young creatives in Ethiopia and draws on everyday social dynamics, jokes, and moments.

In traditional Ethiopian coffee ceremonies, Bereka refers to the third round of coffee, served after the strongest brews, when the coffee is more diluted but people still stay. It’s the round that represents togetherness: lingering conversation, friendship, family, and the decision to remain with one another even as the coffee’s intensity fades.

Bereka is inspired by that moment. The game isn’t about sharp competition or winning quickly, it’s about staying, talking, laughing, and sharing stories. Even when the “quality” of the coffee reduces, the connection deepens. That spirit is what Bereka aims to recreate.

Therefore, at its core, Bereka is about coming together and augmenting opportunities for connection. I hope to create games that feel familiar, funny, and reflective of lived experience. While the first product is a card game, the longer‑term vision is to build an Ethiopian game brand that spans multiple formats (card games, expansions, themed editions, potentially other tabletop or mobile games) while staying grounded in cultural authenticity and social impact.

We hope to build social impact through the creation of paid creative opportunities for young writers and designers and uplifting local communities through service and philanthropy.
